There’s no excuse for poor conception rates, regardless of what the season throws at you. Good genetics, particularly fat and muscle, combined with condition score and a few simple management decisions, are what drive conception and ultimately lambs weaned.

The biggest change we’ve seen in our ewes over the last 10 years is their ability to hold body condition when the pressure comes on. We can run more of them, run them harder and still maintain fleece weight, fertility and weaning performance, which is what keeps the business profitable in average and below-average years.

This year’s bulls are bringing together the traits we are continuing to prioritise in our breeding program, fast-growing, easy-doing, highly fertile Wagyu with outstanding carcass traits. Despite a challenging season through much of the year, the bulls have continued to grow and perform well. Their development has reinforced the direction we are taking with the program and the type of Wagyu we are aiming to produce.
